Holiday “5-a-Day Keeps Hunger Away” program exceeds goal by 60%

Honolulu, HI (January 17, 2005) – Jamba Juice teamed up with the Hawaii FoodBank to fight hunger in Hawaii and collected over 40,067 pounds of canned goods during the holiday season through its 2nd annual “5-a-Day Keeps Hunger Away” program, exceeding its goal of 25,000 pounds. From November 18 through December 30, 2004, Jamba Juice rewarded customers with a free smoothie coupon for every 5 cans of fruits or vegetables donated. Over 8,000 FREE smoothie coupons distributed at Jamba Juice stores statewide during the holiday promotion.

“We are so proud of our store managers, team members (employees) and customers who helped make this campaign a huge success,” explained Sherri Rigg, marketing director. “The passion and commitment to help others was truly overwhelming this year. The FoodBank representatives on each island worked diligently to pick up the filled baskets of canned goods at each store and ensure the food was distributed to hungry families.”

Jamba introduced the theme of “5-a-Day Keeps Hunger Away” in 2003 to reinforce the importance of eating five fruits and vegetables a day as well as focus on the need for canned fruits and vegetables. Canned goods were collected at all Jamba stores on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island and were donated to the respective food bank on each island.

Jamba Juice partners with Hawaii FoodBank each Fall to collect much needed rice for Hawaii’s hungry families through its annual Race For Rice campaign. In 2004, Jamba Juice stores in Hawaii Collected over 20,000 pounds of rice during the month of September.

The safety net provided by Hawaii FoodBank and neighbor island food banks provide food for over 118,000 needy people in our islands, each week. Donated and purchased foods are distributed to 260 charities on Oahu and to food banks on Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai. Last year the Hawaii FoodBank distributed nearly 9 million pounds of food, including 1.7 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to those requiring emergency food assistance in Hawaii. The Hawaii FoodBank is a certified member of America’s Second Harvest, the national food bank network.
